UNVEILING THE MYSTERY: HOW OLD IS YOUR AIR CONDITIONER?

Aug 1, 2023 | Uncategorized

As a homeowner, it’s crucial to have a clear picture of your HVAC unit’s age and condition to ensure optimal performance and maintenance. Why is this so important? Well, having prior knowledge of your air conditioner’s age can save you from unexpected surprises, especially if it’s nearing the end of its lifespan. Typically, well-maintained air conditioners last anywhere from 15 to 20 years. Therefore, being aware of your unit’s age empowers you to prepare for potential breakdowns and avoid being caught off guard.

To determine the age of your air conditioner, you can follow the steps provided by your experts at Lewis Center-Powell Heating & Air

Step One: Locate the Manufacture Date on the Condenser

To precisely identify your AC’s age, start by finding the manufacturing date. Head outside and locate your outdoor unit, also known as the condenser—a large metal box that is usually situated in the backyard or sometimes on the side of your house. After you have located the condenser, look for a nameplate on one of the sides of the unit, which contains essential information about the AC. Direct your attention to the upper right corner or the general top area of the nameplate, where the manufacture date is usually labeled as MFR DATE or something similar. If you’re unable to find it, don’t worry; simply move on to step number two.

Step Two: Find the Manufacture Date Online

If you still haven’t been able to locate the manufacture date, go ahead and jot down the model, brand, and serial number from the nameplate, or even just take a picture for easy reference. Next, use your preferred online search engine to look for the manufacture date by entering these three key details in the search bar along with the phrase “manufacture date” before hitting search. This search should yield several websites offering specific instructions on decoding the manufacture date for your particular AC model. With a bit of research and determination, you’ll successfully unveil your air conditioner’s age. Well done!
